Dried Herbs
Does anyone know of a good store with a lot of variety of dried herbs? Herbs like lavendar, mint, eucalyptus, etc... I live in Van Nuys, so somewhere semi-nearby would be great :) Thanks! |

L.A. history thread If you are maybe curious about the history of Los Angeles and you have about an hour to spare this weekend, check out this great thread on SkyscraperPage.com. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=170279There's page after page of amazing old photographs of an almost completely vanished city - an L.A. you've never seen or even imagined before. It's not just informative – it's fun, too! It's quite a trip back through time... You might like to have a look at my own L.A. history blog, too: "Los Angeles Past." http://losangelespast.blogspot.com/Don't let anybody tell you Los Angeles doesn't have a history! This just simply isn't true, as you'll see with your own eyes... |

Attention! Puppies wanted!
My family is looking for two new additions to our family. We REALLY want puppies. My mom is adamant about it, as am I. We realize we just need dogs in the house and that getting two puppies at one time, preferably littermates, would help prevent separation anxiety and boredom. So if any of you know of some puppies who will be able to go to their forever homes by early December or mid December please, PLEASE let me know! We prefer smaller dogs (weighing max 35lbs) with lower than average energy levels. For example, pure terriers are VERY energetic. Our last dog (RIP Osita 10/09/09) was a terrier and we realize we need lazier or low key dogs. Thanks for any help you can give us. We may be willing to pay a small adoption fee for each dog providing that they are fixed and/or have their shots. Anywhere in the Lancaster, Los Angeles, Inland Empire, and Northern Orange County is good for us. I miss my Osita :'( We have tried the city animal shelter but had a VERY bad experience. We aren't totally turned away from shelters but we prefer to hand raise the puppies that way we know what their habits and experiences. Thanks again! Macadamia Computer Repair
Hi there, I'm actually not in LA right now (I'm currently in NY, and a member of newyorkers and know how annoying these out-of-towner posts can be, so my apologies.) I actually have a pretty specific question. I recently spilled milk into my Macbook. It's under Applecare, but the Apple store here said because of the liquid damage, it would be about $800 to repair. Holy moses. So, through some googling, I found a place in LA called Macadamia ( http://www.macadamia.us/) that will do a spill clean up for $185 and if that doesn't work it's free and they'll fix the computer for a low cost. Seems like a great deal and when I spoke to the guy on the phone, he seemed on the up and up, but since I don't see a large web presence nor a Yelp page, just wanted to check and see if anyone on LJ had any information. Have you used this shop or hear from anyone who has? They mentioned on the phone that the address is "1335 North La Brea Ave, Los Angeles." Thanks for any help you can give! And if you all ever need any New York type questions answered, consider me your gal! |

Pupusas? I am going crazy.
Dear LJ Community, Where is the best place for pupusas in L.A.?! I have been craving one for forever and heard good things about Atlacatl on Beverly... thoughts and suggestions? This said, however, I think I have lost my mind. I can almost swear that I've had pupusas with cheese and chicken before, once at an event catered and at Self Help Graphics in East L.A., and once at a pupuseria down in Bell a couple of years ago. I know that isn't how they're usually made and are usually with cheese and pork. Did I imagine this? Even if inauthentic, are there places that make cheese/chicken pupusas in L.A.? I am quite curious to know! |

looking for a personal trainer
Does anybody have any recommendations for a personal trainer? I'm, quite frankly, fat, and I'm finally at that point in my life where I feel I can actually do something about it (meaning, I feel like I can stick with it and not slack off). I'd like to work with a personal trainer. I did have one at my local LA Fitness but I was turned off to her by her attitude. I'm willing to drive to the valley for a good recommendation (I'm in West LA). I'm also willing to switch gyms if need be :) Current Mood: awake |

Don't miss "Landscaping the Den of Saints" this weekend! There are two standout performances in Landscaping, (Jim) Martyka as Jason and (Sean) Fitzgerald as Bruce, the lawyer... their exchange is powerful, and when it finally comes to it's climax, because of the two actors, it was riveting. --Geoff Hoff – LATheatreReview.com, October 2009 Playwright and stage director Jacob Smith packs in a lot of meaty dialogue and awareness that is rightfully suitable for a small stage setting. --Rich Borowy Accessibility Live, October 2009 Landscaping the Den of Saints is a rather earthy look on how getting into "show biz" can turn its ugly head. Witnessing this kind of theatre in a smaller playhouse proves to itself that big things do come in small packages! --Rich Borowy Accessibility Live, October 2009 Landscaping the Den of Saints Written by Jacob Smith Directed by Jacob Smith & Erin Scott When: October 24th - November 22nd, 2009th Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m. Sundays, 7 p.m. *Meet and greet with artists after each show **Tales of an Unsettled City: Exodus will follow Friday night performances ***Special 24-hour theatre event The Artist’s Nightmare will follow the Oct. 24 performance next door at The Sherry Where: The Avery Schreiber Theatre in North Hollywood [ web site] [ directions] 11050 Magnolia Blvd. North Hollywood, CA 91601 Ticket Prices:General Admission: $20 *$25 for both Landscaping the Den of Saints and Tales of an Unsettled City: Exodus on Friday nights **Sunday night performances are “pay-what-you-can”Information & Reservations:For further information, please call: (818) 849-4039 or go to theatreunleashed.com |

10 fwy
I've been taking the 10 E to work and 10 W from work for two years from West LA to Downtown and one thing has always been consistent - home in 25 minutes. For the past two weeks, it's been more like an hour. And in the mornings, it's usually an extra 10-15 minutes. I even went on Venice from La Cienega one day and it was just as choked. I know that there's the normal school rush in September, but I am stumped over the recent traffic. Does anyone know what's going on? |

snow chains\cables and a question
Where can I buy tire chains or cables? I suppose the dealership might have them but do any of the auto stores carry them? Also, for those of you that have driven to Yosemite in the winter I have a question. I drive an 08' Honda Civic two-door. It's a great car but there's a major flaw, it's so damn low to the ground. I can't drive some streets because the dips in the road make the bottom of my car hit the street. Could I drive my car to Yosemite and not worry...especially if there's a snowstorm? I don't know where else to post this, sorry if it seems very off topic for LA. Current Mood: curiousCurrent Music: Simple Minds - Don't You Forget (About Me) |

To see or not to see I have a prescription and need to buy some new glasses. I wear contacts so the glasses don't need to be fabulous... I mainly only wear my glasses at home alone. So far the best option I've found is going to set me back about $100 for lenses and $140-$250 for (designer) lenses/frames.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a "discount" place to buy glasses and/or experience with buying online? Yelp wasn't much help. I am in the Hollywood/WeHo area. |

discount furniture
I'm moving this month and need some new furniture. What are peoples' favorite places for cheap and discount furniture, besides Ikea? I'm especially looking for places that might be selling weird, irregular, slightly damaged stuff at a heavy markdown. |
